More study from my course with Paul Clark in Sussex. Koi carp, in Japanese culture symbolise strength, courage, patience, and success through perseverance. Hopefully these attributes will come to the fore when I paint the next ones. Although the fish’s body worked well I do have work to do on the tail fins.

My second piece from my recent workshop. See Part 1 for details. This class was tutored by Margot Lofts.

See artbypaulclark for details of the course.

My usual media are pen and ink, and acrylics. I have tried watercolour but with little success, (see the Peacock earlier for one of my better attempts) so my wife treated me to a proper course to learn all about it.

I spent five days in the company of Paul Clark and Margot Lofts at the Powdermills Hotel in Battle, Sussex. We completed four paintings, many sketches, and learned methods and techniques for getting the best out of our paints, papers, and brushes. Paul and Margot are great teachers, willing to impart their knowledge and skill.

The teaching was paced just right, and personal attention and critique was always given. A super course – and good value for money – highly recommended.

Here is the first painting. A rocky coastline with crashing waves. More later …
