One of Tando’s new products is a kit for book binding enthusiasts. The kit comprises book covers in sizes from A5 to A9 – that’s tiny! Each greyboard set has two covers and a spine piece that is pre-drilled to take sewn signatures.
As binding books is not on my skills list (yet) I used the pieces to take a shop-bought A6 note book. I glued it inside the back cover and it fits a treat. But how to decorate the cover?
The greyboard used by Tando is pretty substantial stuff, and my inspiration was the classic, 1953 novel by Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451, a dystopian story where all books are burned as they will corrupt the reader. Apparently book paper ignites at 451°F, hence the title of the book and this project.
I used a sharp craft knife to hack at the front cover to get the charred wood effect. Full details of the technique can be found on the Tando Design Team Blog , so nip over and have a peek. Let me know what you think.
