The landlord planted a new apple tree on our ‘Devon bank’ this year – and it produced three apples. So to commemorate the auspicious occasion here is a portrait of the first fruit.

Acrylic on rubberwood board, 10×8 approx.

This is inspired by a lesson by Andy B. Jones (Plaid.com). I’ve always like the ‘free and loose’ style – in contrast to my own tight lines, so this was an opportunity to try something a little different.

Acrylic on stretched canvas, 10×8.

I started with the blank canvas then scumbled on a varied blue background – sky-like. I then sat and looked at it for some while. What should I paint thereon? I eventually decided to use the ‘Roses and Castles’ style castle that I learned some while ago.

And here you have the finished piece, a sort of painty doodle – Castles in the air, acrylic on stretched canvas.
